Angelfish
(Pterophyllum)
The
popular aquarium fish pictured below are the South American cichlids
known as angelfish. Their genus - Pterophyllum - originates from
the Amazon River basin. Like other Amazonian fish, they prefer
soft, slightly acidic water. They do well in groups and are generally
peaceful, but can show aggression while breeding. Angel fish are
known in the hobby to be an easy fish to breed when conditions
are right. Their diet is varied and should include frozen, live
and flake foods.
